Captain Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:
King Salmon fishing is still on the slow side but some are still being taken in closer to shore and out as far as 80 to 100 feet of water, North of the harbor first thing in the morning. Try fishing the top 50 feet of water for best results. Fish those color lines, the fish have been setting in them. Best lures are still the small Pro Kings, Mini Silver Streaks and Small Dreamweaver lures in Yellows, Greens, Orange, Blues, and Black colors with white or glow.
Some Coho Salmon are still being taken in the same areas using bright colors like orange, yellow, chartreuse or red for best results.
Lake Trout are being taken in 80 to 100 feet of water using ghost colored dodgers with silver spin and glows and small spoons fished close to the bottom. Some other colors to try are red, orange, or green colors. Regular and mini size clean spoons trolled fast (2.5 mile per hour) have been working well also fishing top to bottom.
Perch fishing is still very slow, try minnows fishing by the lighthouse or South by the cemetery.
Bass fishing is still very good inside the harbor casting or trolling body baits and spinners.
Steelhead are being taken North of the harbor in 80 to 100 feet of water. Best lures have been the Orange or bright Pink Dreamweavers or Silver Streaks. Don’t fish too deep, they have been coming in the top ten to twenty feet of water! Look for those color lines for best results.
Walleye are being taken North of Port Hope, try using a crawler harness with night crawlers for best results. Fish the 30 to 60 foot of water areas.

Excellent Lake Trout fishing out of Grindstone 70-100 degrees out, near
Lighthouse Park in 80-100 feet of water. Glow green spoons near bottom,
and small dodger/spin-glow combos have been taking some big trout in the
10-11 lb range. A few Chinooks and Cohos have been showing up, in the top
30 feet. Water is still very cold for this time of year.

Captain Ryan Sagady from Bay Sportfishing Charters reports from Saginaw Bay:
Fishing on the Saginaw Bay has been nothing short of awesome so far this summer. We have primarily been pulling crawler harnesses in water 17-22 feet deep NE of the spark plug. Most of the fish are in the 16-19 inch range with an occasional 3-4 pounder thrown in the mix. The fishing has held up very well considering all of the nasty weather that has been moving through the area. The wind, waves, and storms have been relentless the last few days. Waves coming from one direction and wind from another direction makes for some tough trolling conditions.

Captain Terry Walsh of Termar Charters reports from Saginaw Bay & AuGres:
Saginaw Bay walleye fishing is really starting to heat up! Limit catches are becoming common from most ports on the bay. The fish are averaging 18-21 inches, the best one we took last weekend being 7 1/2 lbs. Crawlers are the bait of choice pulled behind in-line sinkers (the minnow style from Northwood Tackle are really the ticket). Fish were being taken in anywhere from 10 to 30 feet of water, depending on where one fished in the bay. Anglers may need to experiment with blade and bead colors, but for the most part, the fish were just flat-out biting! Hot Spots up through Monday were off the rivermouth in 27 feet of water in AuGres, 24 to 25 feet of water off Great Lakes Shores Marina, and 21 to 22 feet of water out of Linwood (Hoyles Marina). Fishing was also excellent both on the east side and the west side of Bouys One and Two. Sunset Bay and the "Slot" were also producing limit catches in 10 to 12 feet of water.
Look for the fishing to get INCREDIBLE once the weather warms a bit more!!

Captain Dan Cruchon From Stormy Chinook Charters reports from Port Austin:
Big Lake Trout showed up yesterday, up to 13 lbs. They are scattered from
75-120', 340-355 degrees out of Grindstone, taking magnum silver streaks
off the bottom in glow green colors. I also caught two large Whitefish
last night in 120' on the same spoons, right off the bottom. Had no
problem limiting out on Trout, but the Salmon have disappeared.

Keep those lines cleared of the green slime that is still out in the lake right now, if you want to catch those fish! A quick way to clear it off the lines and lures is a good wash down pump, hose it off or keep a towel handy to wipe the lines off as you reel in, that green stuff will clog your rod eyes and stop you from being able to reel those fish in!

Captain Dan Cruchon From Stormy Chinook Charters reports from Port Austin:
Yesterday morning, one of the captain's had mild success in 50-65' of
water, between Grindstone and Port Austin, so I ran 355deg. out of
Grindstone, to the end of the big reef, where it drops off to 140'. There
were plenty of Lake Trout on the bottom, and we limited by 6PM. I
continued the trip by fishing for Salmon in the same area, and caught 1
Coho and several eating sized pink salmon, in the 25-35' range on bright
colored spoons, regular size. The trout hit on the bottom, magnum spoons
in glow green colors. I will be out this weekend, and can be reached on
channel 7 for information.

Captain Dan Cruchon From Stormy Chinook Charters reports from Port Austin:
Fished Friday, 2 trips on Saturday, and yesterday morning out of
Grindstone. I am surprised that there are as many Salmon available as Lake
Trout. My average has only been 8 fish per trip, but a nice mix. The
hottest lure for salmon has been the glow lud watermelon off 6 color
leadcore rigs. Lake Trout have been very scattered. I took some in 140'
off the bottom, and some in 35' on sliders, with mainline at 25. The
green-mart magnum silver streak was my best Trout bait.
05/22/08 9:31(CST)
Captain Dan Cruchon From Stormy Chinook Charters reports from Port Austin:
I ran my first Grindstone/Port Austin trip last evening, and have
several more in the days to come.
Friends who were fishing over the weekend reported excellent Trout fishing
near the Port Austin can in 40-50', using glow green spoons near bottom,
in clear water. Last night, I noticed green water, with lots of "trash" in
the water, and had a hard time keeping lines clear of moss. I didn't catch
a fish until trolling out to 70', then caught several Lake trout and 2
Walleye near bottom with glow green spoons in magnum sizes. I also lost a
nice King on 6 colors of lead with a glow Lud.Watermelon. The deeper I
got, the more fish were being marked, and more hits were occuring.
Unfortunately, a hard NE wind started and my Arizona guests who wore
flip-flops and shorts asked me to go back 2 hours early. I will have a lot
to report for the weekend.

Captain Ryan Sagady from Bay Sportfishing Charters reports from Saginaw Bay:
The Michigan Walleye Tour was on Saginaw Bay this past weekend and limits were
the norm at the weigh in. Congratulations to Rick and Kal Ustishen, who brought
in a two-day total of 44.65 lbs., to take home the first place trophy. Ed
Clements and I finished a very disappointing 17th in the event. We caught tons
of fish on both Saturday and Sunday, but good sized fish were difficult to come
by.
Fish have started to move out of the shallow water and can be found in 11-15
feet. Try pulling either crawler harnesses or stickbaits around the old dumping
grounds area just west of the shipping channel and around Callahan Reef.
05/09/08 8:2(CST)
Captain Dan Cruchon From Stormy Chinook Charters reports from Port Austin:
Had 3 trips this week out of Lexington: Coho's are still biting in 8-18
feet of water, running Long-A Bombers 120-150' off the big planer boards.
Try to find the off-colored water. If you get out deeper, Lake Trout
fishing is excellent. We caught 8 Lakers in the 8-12 lb. range in 30',
mainly running dipsys 50' back, with magnum spoons. The hottest color was
Green Alewife. Some Kings up to 13 lbs are scattered from 30 to 70 feet of
water, but no concentrations are being found. I will be reporting from the
Grindstone/Port Austin area until I move to Frankfort late July.

Captain Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:
Salmon Fishing is fair to good with some nice size Salmon being taken
straight out and South of the harbor in close to shore. Try small
spoons and body baits for best results. Best colors have been blue,
gray and green. Get those lines back a way for best results.
Cohos have been being taken mixed in with the Salmon on the same lures.
Lake Trout are also being taken in close to shore using small spoons off
the down riggers.
Perch fishing is slow, you might want to try by the Light House or along
the channel by the main gap of the harbor.
Keep those lines tight!

Captain Ken Deaton of J-Lyn Charters reports from Harbor Beach:
Some Salmon and Coho are being taken outside the wall and South of the
harbor in 25 to 30 feet of water using body baits and small Pro King lures.
Lake Trout are also being taken on the same lures, but put them back
till the 1st of May though!
No reports on perch being taken as of yet. Get out there and give it a
try, they should start any time!
That's it for now,
Keep those lines tight!
04/22/08 8:9(CST)
Captain Dan Cruchon From Stormy Chinook Charters reports from Port Austin:
Fishing has been the best in several years for southern Lake huron. The
recent hotspot has been out of Lexington, either north or south of the
harbor. Some Kings to 13 lbs have been taken in 8-20 feet of water, with
lots of Coho and smaller Kings in the 4 lb range. There have been a lot of
Lake Trout releases, but if you stay inside of 20 ft, there aren't many
Lake trout. Try to find the off-colored water(not too muddy, or too
clear). The best baits are like the old days - Long A Bombers in orange,
green, chartreuse and gold combinations. I will be happy to give
information on the radio if you call me on channel 68.
